I Didn't Know the Y Did That!

January 25, 2007

Most people are really surprised when they see what the YMCA provides, where we are and how big we are. There are YMCAs from Auckland to Invercargill and they run a wide variety of programmes and services. Y Accommodation provides two great hostels in Auckland and Christchurch. Get fit with Y Fitness at one of the 20 centres in New Zealand - 14,000 members already do! Book your child or young adult into one of our Y Kids holiday programmes or before or after school programmes. With Y-OSCAR, the YMCA is New Zealand's largest OSCAR (Out of School Care and Recreation) provider. Early Childhood Education is also very popular and the YMCA runs seven registered childcare centres and 15 creches with more planned. Y-Gymnastics has been a mainstay of the YMCA and many thousands of New Zealanders have attended gym at the Y over the years. Try Y We Dance - a really popular activity for kids of any age. Have a young adult between 13 and 18? Get them to check out Raise up n Represent - a youth development framework designed just for them. Book your child in one of the school holiday camping programmes that operate in our seven camps (if you are a teacher, the YMCA is a great place for your annual camp). There is so much more at the YMCA. Why not contact your local Y and ask them what is available? After all, the YMCA has been building strong kids, strong families and strong communities in New Zealand for more than 150 years!
